2012年10月9日-28日，联合国教科文组织国际自然与文化遗产空间技术中心（以下简称“HIST”）和中国科学院对地观测与数字地球科学中心（以下简称“对地观测中心”）共同承办了“第一届世界遗产空间技术培训班”。来自伊朗、斯里兰卡、柬埔寨、缅甸、老挝、朝鲜等15个亚洲发展中国家的20名世界遗产管理和研究人员在北京进行了为期20天的培训。
培训班于2012年10月9日开班，HIST副主任兼秘书长洪天华主持了开班式，AIR和HIST主任郭华东致辞，对全体学员的到来表示热烈欢迎，并就空间技术在世界遗产管理和保护中的应用、对地观测中心的科研设施进行了简要的介绍，对学员的培训和学习致以良好的祝愿。中国科学院国际合作局副局长曹京华赞赏了HIST培训班的组织工作，简要介绍了中国科学院的国际合作情况，表示今后将对HIST予以更多支持；国家文物局文保司司长关强向培训班的成功举办表述祝贺，并向学员介绍了中国在世界遗产工作中所取得的成绩，表示希望与亚洲国家开展相应的合作。王心源副主任对HIST及依托单位AIR作了介绍。
