HIST Representative attends ASEM Workshop on Conservation of Monuments and Artefacts

HIST representative, Archana Jayaraman, attended a two day workshop in New Delhi, India, on ‘Techniques and Instruments for Conservation of Monuments and Artefacts’ from February 6-7, 2017. The workshop was organized by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India in association with the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) and was held under the umbrella of the Asia Europe Meeting or ASEM, which serves as a unique platform for dialogue and cooperation between Asia and Europe.
The workshop was attended by more than 80 participants from all over Asia and Europe and included practitioners, researchers and policy makers alike. The inaugural address was delivered by Ms.Preeti Saran, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, while Ms. Pooja Kapur, Joint Secretary (ASEAN ML) delivered the Valedictory Address.
The workshop focused on various aspects of conservation techniques and technologies, including the use of modern technologies for cultural heritage. Archana made a presentation on ‘Space Technologies: a powerful tool for the smart management of heritage properties’, which touched on HIST’s experience and expertise in the area of Space Technologies and their applications in conservation and monitoring of heritage sites. The presentation was well received and HIST was appreciated for its novel approach to conservation and for its wide portfolio of projects.
The discussions were followed by field visits to the INTACH Conservation Laboratory, the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts and the Humayun’s Tomb World Heritage Site.
