2014 Annual Conference of China's GGN Chinese Members Held in Shennongjia Geopark

On May 15th and 16th, 2014 Annual Conference of China's GGN Members was successfully held in Shennongjia Global Geopark of China. This conference was called by the Department of Geological Environment under the Ministry of Land and Resources of China, organized by GGN Beijing Office and the Chinese Geoparks Network, co-organized by the Department of Land and Resources of Hubei Province and the People’s Government of Shennongjia Forestry District, and sponsored by Shennongjia Global Geopark, Shennongjia National Nature Reserve and Hubei Shennong Tourism Investment Group Co., Ltd. The participants of the Conference include representatives from 28 Chinese global geoparks, 6 national geoparks and departments of land and resources of 17 provinces.
At the Conference, Ms. Chen Xiaoning, Deputy Director of the Department of Geological Environment of the Ministry of Land and Resources of China, made a summary on the work of China's global geoparks done in 2013, and made arrangements for the work to be done in 2014. Mr. Dong Shuwen, Deputy Director of the Chinese Geoparks Network and Director of GGN Beijing Office, Mr. Jin Xiaochi, GGN Bureau member, and Mr. Zheng Yuan, Director of the Chinese Geoparks Network, respectively spoke on GGN’s development prospect and latest trend, requirements and standards on management of global geoparks, and the plan for celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Global Geoparks Network. Shennongjia and Yanqing, as new GGN members, introduced about the building, development and management of their geoparks. Xingwen and other four Chinese global geoparks made presentations according to the theme of the Conference “Cooperation, Communication and Sustainable Development”. The Conference was chaired by Ms. Yuan Xiaohong, Division Chief of the Department of Geological Environment of the Ministry of Land and Resources of China.
During the Conference, the representatives also participated in the unveiling ceremony of Shennongjia Global Geopark and the “GGN Development Woods” tree planting activity.
