More than 100 experts from 22 countries will gather in Huangshan of East China's Anhui province between May 26 and May 30 to talk about using space technologies to protect UNESCO designated world heritage sites.
Huangshan Dialogue on UNESCO Designated Places and Sustainable Development is launched by these organizations under the UNESCO - the International Centre on Space Technologies for Natural and Cultural Heritage, the World Heritage Center, Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB) and the Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences - as well as the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Although the number of UNESCO world heritage sites continues to rise year by year, it is more and more challenging to protect and manage them. Natural disasters and economic expansion are being blamed. Against such a backdrop, the meeting will be held.
Participants in the Huangshan Dialogue will explore the role of space technologies in the protection and stewardship of UNESCO world heritage sites, biosphere reserves and UNESCO affiliated global geo-parks. The Declaration of Huangshan is to be made at the meeting.
As a UNESCO world heritage site and a world geo-park, Huangshan Mountain has hosted several global events like the International Conference on Sustainable Tourism Management at Heritage Sites.
