2014年7月1日-19日，在中国科学院国际合作局的支持下，由联合国教科文组织国际自然与文化遗产空间技术中心（HIST）和中国科学院遥感与数字地球研究所（AIR）共同举办的“第二届世界遗产空间技术培训班”在北京、郑州成功举办。来自斯里兰卡、柬埔寨、缅甸、埃及、埃塞俄比亚等12个亚洲和非洲发展中国家的20名世界遗产管理和研究人员参加了为期20天的培训。
7月2日上午，培训班开幕式在AIR新技术园区召开。AIR所长、HIST主任郭华东、中国科学院国际合作局副局长曹京华、国家文物局文物保护与考古司副司长陆琼、住房和城乡建设部城市建设司代表刘红纯及HIST负责人等出席了开幕式。
开幕式由HIST常务副主任兼秘书长洪天华主持。郭华东主任致辞，对全体学员的到来表示热烈欢迎，就空间技术在世界遗产管理和保护中的应用、培训课程的设置进行了简要的介绍，对学员的培训和学习致以良好的祝愿；曹京华副局长高度赞赏了HIST培训班的组织工作，要求HIST把培训办好，并在培训后做好学员的跟踪和联系，了解培训对他们工作所产生的影响；陆琼副司长对中国在世界遗产工作中所取得的成绩进行了简要介绍，并期望与亚洲国家开展相应的合作。此次培训班的教员代表、“外专千人”专家N.Ishwaran及学员代表Anmed Ibrahim分别致辞。洪天华还简要介绍了HIST的基本情况。
开幕式后，学员们参观了新技术园区的数字遗产科学平台、卫星数据接收运管系统等。参观后，曹京华副局长还为学员开讲了第一课：“中国科学院国际交流与合作”的讲座，介绍了中国科学院的科技资源及国际合作开展情况。
