HIST-Hengyang Base (http://www.hynu.edu.cn) , launched on Nov 14th, 2016 in Hengyang City of Hunan Province, is the third branch of HIST, following HIST- Zhengzhou Base and HIST-Harbin Base. It will also take a leading role as HIST’s research center in South Central China which mainly covers 6 provinces including Hunan, Hubei, Guangdong, Guangxi, Jiangxi and Hainan and extends to countries of Southeast Asia. Led by HIST’s mission of using space technologies on world natural and cultural heritage conservation, HIST-Hengyang Base intends to give a full play to its academic advantages and research interests and is ready to carry out innovative technologies and application studies on digitalized preservation of cultural heritage in ancient villages and towns, with respect to the database construction of cultural heritage in ancient villages and towns, dynamic monitoring of national historical and cultural villages and towns, studies of environmental effects on traditional settlements, and the 3D visualization of historical and cultural villages and towns. In accordance with the national strategy of “the Belt and Road”, Hengyang Base seeks to expand research collaboration opportunities and hold academic trainings, provides more technological services, upgrades its comprehensive strength, and contributes to regional development.

Located in Hengyang Normal University, HIST-Hengyang Base is mainly supported by the Collaborative Innovation Center for Digitalization of Cultural Heritage in Ancient Villages and Towns. The Director of Hengyang Base takes the responsibility of operation under the leadership of council members. The current director is Professor Peilin Liu, who is the president of Hengyang Normal University and the director of National-Local Joint Engineering Laboratory on Digital Preservation and Innovative Technologies for the Culture of Traditional Villages and Towns.
